W8 - The Final Cut

So after some additional editing and some re-uploading of files due to size limitations and whatnot, the final map is complete! I will take you on a tour of my stomping grounds and show you some points of interest (..of interest to me that is). I hope you enjoy the journey and feel free to spread the word to anyone local to the area! Maybe they have some knowledge to share about some of the spots that I have marked.

Here it is:

When all is said and done, this was a refreshing and rewarding experience. Not only did I get out of the apartment to stretch my legs and get some fresh air but I also had the opportunity to document my surroundings. Not only will this show the world my area but maybe open some local eyes to spots that they have not noticed or have taken for granted.

In addition to that, I have also been able to have a look at one highly potential emerging technology, the interactive Google map. I think that this tech is extremly intuitive as well as informative in a sense that if you are interested in a particular geographical area and are planning a trip there, you can look up an interactive map and get a deeper view. However, if there is nothing documented on your area of interest, you then have the opportunity to broadcast that to the globe! We live in such an advanced time and space! Until next time! Cheers!

W7 - Almost there...

So, last week was insanity, pure and simple. Having a newborn in the house has thrown everything upside down but for the better. My little buddy is slowly adjusting to his new home. Good times!

But I digress...

My senior project has been coming along nicely. Will 90% of all my footage taken, documented and uploaded, I am just putting the final pieces into place. Here is a preview of what I have been working on:

W6 - After settling...

Well, after surviving the night and the baby only waking up once to eat, momma bear and poppa bear got some needed rest. After having the evening and this morning to settle, I have found another picture from our hospital adventure that I wanted to share because it is priceless:

Yes, that is me all prepped and ready to go into the operating room with my wife. Terrifying but definitely a life experience worth participating in. And believe me, I DO NOT do well in hospital situations like these. I black out whenever I have to have blood taken...

Until next time! Cheers!

W6 - All is well

So this week was REALLY intense for my family. My wife went through 30+ hours of labor only to have an emergency C-Section due to a distressed baby. One February 8th, 2012 David William Mcpolin was born at 9lbs 3oz and 22 inches long. It was a long and rough road that took a significant amount of time away from my main project but in all honesty, it is all worth it.

Regardless of all that, momma and baby are both finally home and happy and healthy. Here is a profile of the new addition:

I will soon have more details on the project as time permits, just wanted to post an update of our life happenings. Cheers!

W3 - D2 - Update

This week was a wrench in the machine. With my wife approaching her 39th week of pregnancy, things are coming down to the wire. In addition to that she is now on full maternity leave so taking care of her is full time work.

Furthermore, we have had some inclement weather here today so a trip outside was not optimal. Tomorrow is not likely either due to the rain. Unfirtunately this week was a bust. Next week will prove more productive and I will share.

Until then...

W3 - D1 - Actual Google Map

OK, so now that I have had some time to decide which route I will take, it is clear. My wife and I will be strolling down Myrtle Avenue as there are many more things to see, do and document along the way. You can find the W.I.P. (Work In Progress) map below but please note that no actual media has been embedded. Once the footage starts flowing in and I get around to embedding it, I will be sure to keep the updates coming.

Myrtle Avenue Journey (WIP)

One of the main reasons why I chose this area is that it is home. Everything I need or want is within walking distance. For those of you reading this blog that live in the city, often times we take this little piece of simplicity for granted. For those reading this in a more rural area, hopefully this will shed some light on one of the beauties of living in a city area. Stay tuned for more updates!

W2 - D3 - The trip has been planned.

Ok, so I don't have any footage of the area I am going to traverse yet but that is because I have not begun to document it! Essentially, I am going to cover an approximate 10 block radius near where I live. Some of the highlights are public transit (as I mentioned in my last post), shopping (which there is plenty of, on both Myrtle Ave. and Fresh Pond Rd.) and FOOD! There are so many small unknown dive places to eat near me that the choice is often times overwhelming.

In a nut shell, I am torn between documenting Fresh Pond Rd and Myrtle Ave as both routes offer so much to see and do. That is why I am going to cover a bit more area than what is required. Hopefully it will bring some light to the area for people visiting or new residents to Queens and offer you some entertainment!

On a side note, one place that will be documented is one of our favorite places to eat, Corato's. This place has been around since 1959 and one of the best aspects of this place is that it sits right under the M Train so you get to enjoy the sounds of the train as you enjoy your food!

Noms are imminent

But again, I digress...

Back to the point. The project planning phase of "pre-production" is now complete. I have my trip planned and the next step is to get supplies ready to document the adventure. Stay tuned for more details!
